This thesis is discuss the
role of the African Union to resolving conflicts in the post-referendum Sudan.
The conflict between ethnic Arab and ethnic African arising from closed borders
imposed when the British was colonize the Sudan so that inflicted in two
different ethnic groups. Although Sudan has gained independence from the
British, but rebellion between south sudan towards the government of sudan who
want justice still continues.
The existence of peace
negotiations between the Government and South Sudan has began in 2001 and ended
in 2005 with an agreement on power sharing, wealth sharing, security
arrangements, general election and referendum. Organize the referendum and end
at the end of the transition period in 2011. The existence of pending matters
that make the two sides clashed again after the referendum. Pending matters
including borders that should be done during the transition, the distribution
of oil which should have been agreed before the referendum and the settlement
of foreign debt and assets as well as the population of the country. What is
the role of the African Union in resolving the conflict in Sudan post
referendum was appointed to research this problem.
The concept of
international organizations use in this problem, which is reinforced by the
approach of neoliberalism or neoliberal institutionalism to explain the role of
international organization in resolving the problem that occurs in the dynamics
of international relations.
From the discussion of
this thesis could be concluded that the African Union as a regional
organization in the African region, has a key role to resolve the conflict in
Sudan as an arena (a forum or container). By placing the position of the
African Union as an international organization which is a place to come
together, consult and initiate decision making in together or the formulation
of international agreement to resolve the conflict in Sudan. In other words,
the position of the African Union as a regional organization in Africa is a
mediator to mediate between Sudan with South Sudan.
